One and Three Shadows

Conceived during the pandemic, this work reflects on the self as a fragile fulcrum situated at the intersection of natural systems and social structures. The concrete slabs within the installation symbolise the social environment that defines and confines our daily lives. Within this framework, I envision the self as a glimmering light, projecting images through the dual interplay of transcendental sunlight and artificial light. As these light sources fluctuate across the concrete surface, the shadows undergo a constant metamorphosis, mirroring the fluid and uncertain nature of identity. This interaction creates a poetic 'intermediary space' that renders the boundaries of existence visible, inviting the observer to glimpse the 'Void' (无) lying beyond intuitive perception.
